Installation of Officers

1.- July 6-31
RITE Program to teach English in Cancun's Public Schools;
(RITE = Research in Integrated Training & Education)


1.- During recent years we have hosted RITE teachers who came to Cancun from Texas (U.S.A.). They give low cost instruction in spoken English to students who vary in age from elementary to high school level. (If we charge anything, the fee is never more than $10 USD for the month's instruction.)

This year (2009) instruction is being held at the Conalep technical high school. Approximately 80 students had been enrolled. Most of these are recent graduates who prepared for careers in the hotel-hospitality industry.

An assembly was held at 5 pm followed by dinner with spouses at 9:15 pm.

Donation of Orthopedic Prothesis
1.- Eight children received orthopedic prothesis at the C.R.I.T. Cancun (CRIT= Centro de Rehabilitación Infantil - Teletón)

Club Bar-b-que
           
2.- Lino Garcia C. hosted a bar-b-que at his rancho. It brought together ex-members of this Club, present members, High School exchange students and their local host families.
3.- Aug. 23
Beach Clean-up Event
  
2.- The Club participated in a beach clean-up event. Club members and members of the Rotaract Club were in charge of the clean-up efforts of several hundred volunteers cleaning-up Playa del Niño (Children's Beach). Other groups collected trash at three other beaches. Trash from Playa del Niño included over 8,000 cigarette butts and 90 pounds of bottle caps.

Rotary Foundation Workshop
1.- Rotarians from four clubs participated in a Rotary Foundation workshop held in Cancun.
Speakers included Governor Santiago Acona, Past Governor Jorge Lopez Mena, and Augusto Pastachini

2.- Sept. 12-13 - Exchange Students visit Cancun

Students from all over the state gathered in Cancun. They were received with a Bar-B-Que at the "Palapa de Tito" . .

Our friend Roberto "Centurion" Arce was elected to lead this Club in 2010-2011.
2.- 30 End_Polio_Now Fundraising Campaign



2.- End_Polio_Now Fundraising Campaign
The Cancun R.C. is working with the CONALEP Technical High School to raise funds for the Polio Plus - End_Polio_Now campaign designed to eradicate the poliomelitis virus. The students (shown holding information pamphlets) will be selling wristbands embossed with "ROTARY  CONTRA  LA  POLIO" (Rotary against Polio). Monies collected will buy vacines for the world-wide eradication campaign which is now in its 25th year.

1.- Dec. 5 - Evento de los 100 - Fund Raising Event

1.- Our principal fund raising event was a great success! Food - Drinks - Raffles - Games all contributed to the making of a successful afternoon at an "hacienda" outside of Cancun.

2.- Ms. Helen Perez will be participating in the International Study Group that will be traveling to Venezuela in the spring. She visited the club to introduce herself and to give us a presentation on her background.

JANUARY CALENDAR:

    CLUB NEWS - JANUARY:

1.- Haiti Earthquake Relief 
1.- The three Rotary Clubs in Cancun, the Cancun Rotaract Club and the Interact Club (in formation) will work together manning collection centers where food, medicine and other aid can be received for the earthquake survivors of the Haiti earthquake (Jan 13, 2010).

On Saturday Jan.16 and Sunday Jan. 17 there were collection centers located at the Soriana supermarket located at Coba & Kabah and at the Mega Comercial Mexicana on Kabah Avenue.

2.- Food to local area families 
2.- The Red Cross of Mexico received a certain amount of foodstuffs which were too close to the expiration date to be sent to Haiti. These were delivered to the Cancun Rotary Club which then separated them into family sized "dispensas" on January 22 & 23 and subsequently delivered these to families in eight rural villages near Cancun on January 29.Relief Aid for Haiti
 

FEBRUARY CALENDAR:


    CLUB NEWS - FEBRUARY:

1.- Speaker Feb. 10    
1.- Dr. Andrew William Campbell, the medical director of the Camelot Cancer Center of Tulsa, Oklahoma (USA) gave a talk on non-toxic chemotherapy for treating cancer patients. His protocol aims to strengthen the body's immune system so that it can identify and eliminate the cancer cells.

The Club also received a brief overview of the project to extend and amplify the installations at the "Centro Comunitario 'Rotary International' de Cancún" which is located in Region 103, a blue collar section of Cancun.
2.- PGA Tour 2010 - Mayacoba Golf Classic
2.- The Cancun Rotary Club will provide volunteer workers (principally crowd control marshals and hole captains) for the fourth consecutive year when the Mayacoba Golf Classic is held on February 18 - 21.

On Sunday the 7th a full contingent of members and students from the Conalep technical high school attended a pre-tournament training session.

Gifts are taken to several local schools. This year the actual day, April 30 coincided with the District Conference, so the delivery of gifts was postponed to May 11. They will be given to children in the (very) rural community of Nacozari.

Mothers' Day.
1.- Every year Mothers' Day is commemorated by placing a wreath at the Statue to Motherhood which the Club built in 1985. We also typically present small appliances and other gifts to needy mothers. This year we were accompanied by Rotarians from British Columbia, Canada. Monument to Motherhood
